Best Super Bowl 48 Commercials

February 7, 2014

In case you don’t follow me on Twitter. Catch a recap of my comments from the big game’s only game this year, the #brandbowl. How did brands spend $4mil in 30 seconds? Let’s find out.

Observations

There were lots of car/truck commercials! Maserati, Audi, Hyundai, Chevy, and that’s just from memory.

The hashtags win! Just before I began tweeting I came across this helpful tweet. It allowed me to see what others were talking about and I used a variety of these hashtags, too.

Best hashtags for analysis of Super Bowl advertising & social mktg: #adbowl #brandbowl #3percentSB #RTMBowl #superbowlads Others?

This was my favorite response.

@TerraLFletcher I’ll add bacon on my Superbowl ad. People love bacon! 😀 — Raul Tijerina Jr (@RaulTijerinaJr) February 2, 2014

Here’s a great review of the most successful Twitter conversations around the big game’s big ads from Copypress. This Top 10 list comes from Monika Runstrom.

Top 10 Superbowl 2014 Ad Hashtags:

#esurancesave30 — 1,430,328 tweets #bestbuds — Budweiser — 84,410 tweets #CaptainAmerica — Captain America Movie — 48,553 tweets #hugfest — Honda — 30,607 tweets #AmericaIsBeautiful — Coca Cola — 29,725 #jackisback — 24 TV Show — 28,834 tweets #beckhamforhm — H&M — 17,629 tweets #saluteahero — Budweiser 17,643 tweets (although the hashtag on the commercial was #Salute a Hero) #doritos — Doritos — 14,070 tweets

Penney’s and Mittens

Here was a side conversation that took place during the game. Penney’s tweeted something ridiculous. They weren’t drunk tweeting, just wearing mittens. Didn’t work for me, but did get a lot of attention without the expense.

My Faves and Other Comments

What should be considered a favorite is what is remembered and what will help the company get closer to their goal for the $4mil spent. We aren’t measuring pure ROI here, folks!

Doritos

Doritos commercials are entertaining!

Doritos time machine for the win! #brandbowl — Terra L. Fletcher (@TerraLFletcher) February 2, 2014

#Doritos how much time did you spend on the cowboy kid’s hair? #cute #superbowlcommercials — Terra L. Fletcher (@TerraLFletcher) February 3, 2014

 Bud

I know everyone loved Best Buds. And though I tried really hard NOT to watch the commercials in advance, somehow I saw this one twice beforehand. Sorry Bud, ruined it for my.

#Bud too much hype.Hope there’s more! #superbowlads — Terra L. Fletcher (@TerraLFletcher) February 3, 2014

Genesis

Yes, that was a Mitsuibishi Evolution that Genesis almost took out in the Hyundai commercial. It caught my eye because I have an EVO (well, my husband does). But this commercial made it’s point.

#Genesis thanks for not hitting my car! #EVO #brandbowl — Terra L. Fletcher (@TerraLFletcher) February 3, 2014

GoDaddy

I’m not a fan of GoDaddy when it comes to their website and hosting services. Not may favorite company to deal with. But I am pleased at how far their commercials have come. (Sorry, Danica.) And CHEERS! to Gwen!

#godaddy yeah for Gwen! #superbowlads — Terra L. Fletcher (@TerraLFletcher) February 3, 2014

  TMobile

I liked this commercial. Tebow is so very recognizable to this audience, what I worry about here is if the commercial aligned itself with the brand. I remembered Tebow and no contract, but not so much TMobile. (Three things is a lot to remember in 30 seconds, especially whilst at a friends house where things are rowdy and I’ve had a glass of wine.)

#TMobile #nocontract #Tebowie way to go! #superbowlads

  H&M

I had the same problem with David Beckham. H& helloooo!

David Beckham yummmm. What was that commercial for? #sbads — Terra L. Fletcher (@TerraLFletcher) February 3, 2014

Spiderman

Movie previews don’t always rank very highly for me, but this one did. (My brother owns Chimney Mechanix.)

#SpiderMan yay! Shout out to my favorite chimney sweeps! #superbowlads — Terra L. Fletcher (@TerraLFletcher) February 3, 2014

ESurance

This one aired right after the game.

#EsuranceSave30 you win! #superbowlads #brandbowl
