Local Ads That Work

March 6, 2014

I always liked advertising. My favorite part of movies is the previews. I page through magazines just to see which ads catch my eye. As a child I would mentally scramble the letters on billboards to see what other combinations I could make from the words on them.

When a local ad catches my eye, I take note. Here are a few that did so recently. Enjoy!

Senzig’s Fine Home Furnishings Thank You Note and Video Contest

I recently made a purchase at Wisconsin’s Furniture Giant. The service was amazing! They called me to see how the delivery went and if we liked the new mattress. Then I got this brief, handwritten Thank You! Well done, Senzig’s!

Senzig’s is also running a really fun contest among their employees. A video contest! Check out the playlist on YouTube. Don’t forget to share your favorites!

American Marine Boat Show

boad show The local marina really hit this one out of the park. Instead of paying to go to a boat show American did a great job advertising their FREE boat show. Not only was it free admittance, but each visitor received a free hot dog, and soda or beer. There were more than just boats to see! We enjoyed checking out a mini petting zoo, fishing demo, samples of the latest Rockstar energy drinks, vendor booths, and more!

wow store local adSure putting on an event of this magnitude took some funding, but American Marine could not have set up a booth at a boat show that would accomplish all this. Their marketing communicated the message well to a variety of audiences. They had a SIX PAGE ad in the local visitors guide. More interesting to me, though was how each ad had a different feel to it. You didn’t notice it was a six page ad. You only saw the page that was intended to communicate to you – a very specific target market. American also spray painted the show info on covers of boats parked in front of their store, aired local TV commercials, and put out print ads. They saturated the market with the communication and it worked! The attendance was high, the atmosphere was fun, and no doubt many people who thought they had no place in a boat store felt comfortable. An event like this is a great way to break the ice.
